For the second time this weekend, we woke up at the crack of dawn. Today it was for our parish festival. We sold ice cream floats!

And even though I am completely exhausted and ready to go to bed four hours earlier than usual, I had a great time meeting new members of our church, talking to kids who recognize me from teaching Sunday school, and watching our children take pride in volunteering. M was even a bit hurt after being told they didn’t need him anymore… and he had just finished up a two hour shift of taking tickets and making ice cream floats! I had to explain to him that he wasn’t being kicked out; it was just other people’s turn to volunteer and his turn to enjoy the festival!
It’s hard to believe that just over a year ago I had no idea what sort of educational resources our parish had to offer and now am involved in two of the ministries! I was asked to be in charge of decorations for our church’s Oktoberfest celebration next month! Yikes!
I can’t complain though. We’ve met a lot of wonderful people. I am happy encourage this gift of giving back to our church and community to our kids and look forward when R is home so we can truly volunteer as a family!
